February 2013 – In the Spring of 2012 I had the honor of being asked to compose the music for Michelle Obama’s Grammy Award-nominated audiobook, American Grown: How the White House Kitchen Garden Inspires Families, Schools and Communities. In addition to composing a main theme for the book, I created a theme for each of the four seasons. Everything was written for solo piano and was performed and recorded in my home studio over the course of a week. I am grateful to the producers, Scott Cresswell and Dan Zitt for the opportunity to work on such an exciting and positive project. The First Lady hopes the book will keep “the conversation going about how we can all work together to ensure a healthy future for all our nation’s children.”

February 14, 2013 – Chris performed at the United Nations General Assembly Hall on February 14, 2013 as part of World Interfaith Harmony Week. The program titled: United for a Culture of Peace Through Interfaith Harmony, featured distinguished speakers, musicians, and representatives of diverse religious traditions, plus a participatory call to peace in a World Peace Flag Ceremony. Chris accompanied the presentation of the flags from all the nations of the world. The ceremony was streamed live on UN TV and a link to that video can be found at UN Web TV  The World Peace Flag Ceremony starts at about 2’30” into the clip.

Now Available! “Courage & Grace” – My new CD is finally finished and available online at most digital outlets.  The album was recorded in the fall of 2012. In creating these eight improvisational piano meditations it was my intention to embody and express a sense of comfort and strength that listeners can draw upon in times of need. The audience I imagine finding benefit include those with health challenges of any kind, their families, friends and the community of caregivers that serve them. The recording was made on a Yamaha C7 grand piano.

December 10, 2011 – Chris presented a solo improvisational concert titled “Gifts from the Heart” in Katonah, NY. His intention behind “Gifts from the Heart” was to create music that enriches our awareness of the natural qualities within our own hearts and to empower each of us to share these gifts with others. The titles of the pieces were chosen ahead of time and then Chris created improvised works around those themes in the moment. The songlist includes; Beauty, Acceptance, Kindness, Simplicity, Forgiveness, Peace, Compassion, Love, Wisdom and Gratitude. This CD is available for purchase directly from the artist in very limited quantities. Please visit the Contact Page to get in touch if you are interested in a copy.

Here is a video clip of “Compassion”from the “Gifts from the Heart” concert. The video was shot and edited by my daughter, Anna Farrell with Martha Early on 2nd camera. Scott Cresswell recorded the audio.
