February 2013 - In the Spring of 2012 I had the honor of being asked to compose the music for Michelle Obama’s Grammy Award-nominated audiobook, American Grown: How the White House Kitchen Garden Inspires Families, Schools and Communities. In addition to composing a main theme for the book, I created a theme for each of the four seasons. Everything was written for solo piano and was performed and recorded in my home studio over the course of a week. I am grateful to the producers, Scott Cresswell and Dan Zitt for the opportunity to work on such an exciting and positive project. The First Lady hopes the book will keep “the conversation going about how we can all work together to ensure a healthy future for all our nation’s children.”

February 14, 2013 – Chris will be performing at the United Nations General Assembly Hall on February 14, 2013 as part of World Interfaith Harmony Week. The program titled: United for a Culture of Peace, will feature distinguished speakers, musicians, and representatives of diverse religious traditions, plus a participatory call to peace in a World Peace Flag Ceremony. Chris will accompany the presentation of the flags from all the nations of the world. The ceremony with be streamed live at wordpeace.org

July 15, 2012 - On the occasion of my daughter Anna’s wedding, I gave a recital in Portland Oregon at Classic Pianos. I was pleasantly surprised to have a spectacular 9’2″ Schimmel concert grand for me to play on. The instrument was an absolute joy to play, very reminiscent of my C. Bechstein in my studio at home.  We did record some video which I will upload shortly.

 

December 10, 2011 – Chris presented a solo improvisational concert titled “Gifts from the Heart” in Katonah, NY. His intention behind “Gifts from the Heart” was to create music that enriches our awareness of the natural qualities within our own hearts and to empower each of us to share these gifts with others. The titles of the pieces were chosen ahead of time and then Chris created improvised works around those themes in the moment. The songlist includes; Beauty, Acceptance, Kindness, Simplicity, Forgiveness, Peace, Compassion, Love, Wisdom and Gratitude.
